Can Microsoft Lead the AI Race? I’m Excited to Test These Copilot Features First

The anniversary event presented Copilot enhancements for consumers which included vision capabilities advanced shopping tools deep research functions and podcast integration. The most captivating promise was Copilot’s ability to remember user interactions, enabling a tailored experience that evolves into a true “AI companion.” The new features will begin their release on the web version of Copilot before iOS and Android apps get them. The Windows app remains behind the other platforms because it lacks many of these new features when the update launches. The company revealed some Microsoft 365 enterprise version Copilot updates at the event although they saved full details for the Build conference.

Nadella positioned Microsoft’s purpose as a tool for human empowerment through his comparison of AI capabilities to the PC democratization process. The defining element of our organization lies in our ability to empower others to create what they need according to Nadella. The GitHub Copilot demo “vibe coding” session demonstrated how the tool can generate the BASIC Interpreter for the Altair in minutes while showing how AI makes complicated operations more straightforward. The company has transformed from tool provider to platform developer enabling all users to become developers according to Nadella. Microsoft revealed developer tools such as agent mode and MCP support and Copilot code review and multi-agent building capabilities as part of its future plans.

AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman led the excitement by declaring “The age of AI companions and Copilots has begun.” Through vivid imagery Suleyman depicted Copilot as a compact expert who functions as a teacher while also serving as a creative partner and project manager and researcher. Suleyman showed Copilot generating “magazine-style cards” for tasks including birthday party planning before presenting “Actions” as a practical feature that enables Copilot to perform tasks like ticket booking and restaurant reservations and ride orders. Actions enables users to work with Booking.com and Expedia and OpenTable and Tripadvisor partners but users must manually handle CAPTCHAs and payment approvals because of current AI limitations.

The new Deep Research feature gained the most attention among the presented features. The tool analyzes online sources and documents and images to provide strong research capabilities which compete with similar tools found in other AI platforms. The enhanced search function in Bing enables Copilot to link data between websites to produce comprehensive responses with proper sources. The Pages feature functions as an editable “canvas” for users to organize data while Copilot converts the information into documents which enable seamless collaboration and refinement.

The Actions features of Copilot go beyond current form automation programs but their complete functionality needs further evaluation. The combination of personalization, practical automation, and research capabilities positions Copilot as a versatile tool, blending productivity with creativity. The anniversary event demonstrated that Copilot represents more than an AI assistant because it shows the potential for AI to naturally merge with daily life while enhancing productivity through reduced effort.
